Robins Air Force Base
Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, is a majorUS Air Force installation that includes Georgia's longest runway and WarnerRobins Air Logistics Center. The 78th Air Base Wing is the host unitof the base, but more than 60 other units that specialize in Air Force warfighting are located there. The logistics center is a worldwide manager andprovider for aircraft, engines, missiles and software, and together they makeup the largest industrial complex in Georgia. Over 23,000 civil employees aresupported by an annual payroll of $1 billion per year. Construction wasapproved after the 1935 Wilcox-Wilson bill and began approximately three monthsbefore the Pearl Harbor attack. An estimated 50,000 Army personnel trained atWarner Robins during WWII. The base was named in honor of the Air Force'sFather of Logistics, Augustine Warner Robins.
