Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu
Naval BaseVentura County was formed through a merger in 2000 of NAS Point Mugu, Naval CBCPort Hueneme, and San Nicolas Island. NBVCsupports more than 100 tenant commands, and on the combined base they have amobilization site, a deep water port, a railhead and an airfield. Point Muguhas two runways and a sea test range that allows them to test and track weaponswithout interfering with civilian air traffic. Port Hueneme is a deep waterport with 16 miles of rail and serves as the west coast home of the US NavySeabees. The facility also supports training and mobilization of active dutymembers. San Nicolas Island includes one runway and a launch platform formissile testing and observation. Also located on base is the Naval SatelliteOperations Center, which controls and maintains the Navy's communicationsatellites. The base is expected to expand in the near future with the additionof MQ-4C Tritons, which are unmanned aircraft used by the Navy forsurveillance.
