Why it’s a Good Idea to Write a Review of Your Storage Facility

Before the Internet, it wasn’t easy to find out what people thought of various products or businesses. Now, with online reviews it’s easier than ever to share your opinion of a product or service, and to learn what other people think. This makes all of us better equipped to make smart buying decisions.

Like any other business, self storage facilities count on getting positive reviews to help entice new tenants.  Even the occasional not-so-good review can help a facility improve or rectify a situation in which a customer is dissatisfied.

Just as it’s important to read reviews of storage facilities before renting a storage unit, it’s also important to leave one yourself after becoming a customer. Here’s why.

Think of Other Customers

Leaving a positive review is more about what you’ve already gotten from a service or product, rather than what you are going to get out of it. Think of a good review as a thank you to your self storage facility.

More than that, however, think of it as a way to pass on some good news to potential tenants.

Reciprocation

No doubt you’re thankful for the reviews other people leave when you’re looking for a unique restaurant or shop. By leaving your own review (not just of your self storage facility, but of books, shoe stores, or whatever), you’re bound to help some of the very people whose reviews have helped you, as well as many others. You’re both paying the favor back, and paying it forward.

Keep Your Facility In Business

If you like a business, such as the self storage facility you rent from, it’s in your best interest to help them stay in business. Yes, renting from them helps with that, and so does leaving a review.

Think of it this way. People with a complaint are very likely to voice their grievance. That might mean a bad review, or complaining to a manager. Satisfied customers are less likely to express their gratitude. In general, we expect businesses to run well. They’re supposed to provide good service. When they do, we often take it for granted. However, behind that good service are people working hard. Leave a review for them, and help their company remain competitive.

Bad Reviews

Are there times when you should leave a bad review? Of course. However, if you’re dissatisfied with your self storage facility, we encourage you to talk to a manager first. This goes for reviews of any business you visit.

Perhaps there was a dent in your roll-down door. Perhaps the hallway outside your unit was littered with trash because of a tenant, and the facility hadn’t noticed it and cleaned it. Perhaps you were offered a discount on a purchase or one month’s rent, and you were charged the full amount. In many cases, the manager will be able to fix whatever the issue is. You may then even feel inspired enough to post a positive review of your experience.

If you are still dissatisfied, posting a critical review is understandable. If you do this, you may soon see a response from the company. It’s considered unethical for a company to offer to resolve your complaint in exchange for making your review more positive. However, most companies know this and will offer to help without asking for you to change the review. If you’re satisfied with the result, you might want to update the review. It can be helpful for others to read that there was a problem, you posted a review, and the company took it seriously and fixed it.

If you’re happy with your storage facility, help them and other potential tenants by leaving a review. The best sites for this are Yelp and Google Reviews, but sharing your experience on social media is just as helpful.
