Gadgets to Make Your Bedroom a Smart Room

Jon Fesmire | July 13, 2020 @ 9:00 AM

We’re living in an advanced technological age, but in many ways, our homes may still feel like they’re stuck in the 1990s. There’s nothing wrong with this, of course. We have our computers, smartphones, tablets, flat-screen TV sets, plus modern game systems and sound systems. However, if you really want to feel like you’re living in modern times, you may want to consider some fun and useful gadgets for your bedroom.

We’ll cover several types of gadgets and a few specific items.

Smart Picture Frames

Smart picture frames, or digital picture frames, have been around for years, but they keep getting better. These are framed screens that you can hang on your walls that display paintings or photographs. You can have them cycle through various pictures, like screen savers, so the pictures on your walls are constantly changing. Some smart frames even play videos. Imagine putting up looping portraits reminiscent of the moving paintings in Harry Potter.

Phone Sanitizers

These days we’re all more aware than ever of keeping our bodies and our possessions clean. Your smartphone collects the germs you touch all day, from the kitchen to the bathroom and beyond. You can always use lens wipes to clean them, and those work great. But for a more modern solution, consider getting a portable UV phone sanitizer. At the end of the day, or whenever you want to charge your phone, plug it in and put it in this device. The UV rays will kill approximately 99.99% of bacteria and viruses on your smartphone.

Levitating Objects

Thanks to magnetism, it’s possible to levitate various objects, from a replica of the Tardis from Doctor Who to models of the moon. A quick search on Google or Amazon will show dozens of objects you can levitate. This even includes small houseplants, LED bulbs, and more. Is it practical? Not very, but these are fun gadgets.

Super Bookends

Love books, and want to display them with some flare? Then check out the various bookends by Antori Design. Make it look like your books are about to fall over and have Superman or Supergirl hold them up.

A Hidden Wireless Charger

Want to be able to set your phone down on your desk or table and have it automatically charge? ZeePower puts out an “invisible” wireless charger. Basically, it attaches under a surface. Then, when you place your phone on top, it will charge, no wires needed.

A Foot Hammock

Have you ever been working at your desk and realize it would feel great to be able to stretch out your legs? Well, that’s exactly what a foot hammock is for. Get one and attach it under your desk. When you want to relax your legs and take some pressure off your lower back, but keep working, just rest your feet on it.

Adjustable Workstations

You have your desk, but what if your monitor isn’t high enough? What if you want to work on your laptop on your desk and in bed without discomfort? There are a variety of adjustable workstations out there, from combination monitor stands and organizers, that go on top of your desk, to versions you can take into bed with you. These can help you keep your keyboard at a comfortable and safe height for your wrists while elevating your monitor so you don’t have to bend your neck down too much. Some come with built-in phone charging stations, wrist rests, or mousepads.

We hope these ideas help you transform your bedroom into a smart room. Let these ideas be just the beginning. There are plenty of other inventions out there to bring your room into the 2020s. If you need space to put your other things while you upgrade your room, remember that you can always rent a small self storage unit.
