Charlotte has a lot of events during the year that keep storage facilities very busy. One of the biggest events in the area is the Charlotte AutoFair. This event is known as the world’s largest automotive extravaganza and takes place twice a year, once in the spring in April, and once in the fall in September. It’s a four day event in which thousands of collector cars are displayed, such as hot rods, muscle cars, exotic sports cars, and classic cars. There are more than 10,000 automotive vendor displays, and people are buying and selling vehicles, restoration parts, and unique items found only at this event. Food vendors set up their stalls nearby, and there’s also a place for kids to have some fun—the Kids’ Playzone. As if all of that was not enough, there’s also a flea market going on in the same grounds as the auto fair. Vendors in the event have to reserve spots four weeks in advance, meaning that storage units start filling up quickly. With the thousands of displays and everything else that needs to be set up, this is obviously not an event that can be set up in a day.
The vendors for the flea market certainly need to book some storage space to keep their items in storage facilities nearby because they generally don’t have the manpower that the people hosting the auto fair have for helping them set up. Even the hosts of the autofair need to start storing things like their vehicles and restoration parts so the days leading up to the event aren’t too overwhelming. Keep in mind how busy storage facilities will be during these times of the year so you don’t show up to a facility only to find out that all units are full. Also be aware that most of these people will need climate controlled units to protect their precious metals from Charlotte’s heat and crazy humidity, especially during summer months.
Music, Beer, and Meat
Another big event in the area is the famous Bands, Brews, and BBQs. This event is held at Carowinds, Charlotte’s biggest amusement and water park. The event takes place on every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during a two to three week period at the end of July and beginning of August. Food and beer vendors from all over the place put up stalls and live bands are playing on stage throughout the day and a big part of the night. It’s basically a big party full of beer and music. In order to set up for this event, the hosts and all the vendors that are participating need to store their things in a storage facility in order to prepare in advance. They also need to store during the weekdays between the weekends on which the event will be held. The beer definitely needs to be stored in climate controlled units so it doesn’t spoil, farther filling up units throughout the summer.
Vines and Wine
Charlotte is home to the following eight major vineyards, wineries, and breweries: Dennis Vineyard, Childress Vineyards, Uwharrie Vineyards, Old Stone Vineyard and Winery, Olde Mechlenburg Brewery, Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, NoDa Brewing Company, and Carolina Beer & Beverage. Not only is Charlotte a great place to buy fine wine, it’s also a great place to store beer and wine. With so much wine in the area, there is a high demand for storage for it, so facilities that have that option are usually experts in the field. Storing wine may not seem like too difficult a task, but there are actually a lot of things that you need to be careful about. Things that can affect wine in storage include lighting, keeping it still, storing the bottles at a particular angle, keeping it at a particular temperature, and avoiding humidity. The last one can be kind of tough because of the horrible humidity that Charlotte experiences throughout the year and especially during the summer. There’s a whole science to this stuff!

A lot of regular storage facilities have the option of wine storage as well because of its popularity.
