5 Signs You’ve Found the Storage Unit of Your Dreams

Thanks to the glory of the Internet, finding a storage unit is now easier than ever, but that doesn’t mean you should rent just any storage unit. Despite the way they look from the side of the road, not all storage facilities are the same. So how do you find the one that works best for your specific needs? It’s easy! Here are five signs that mean you’ve found the perfect storage unit:

1. You feel good about leaving your stuff there.

What if you had to put everything from your apartment into a storage unit and leave it there for a long time? Would you feel nervous? Would you go out of your way to visit? You should be able to leave your possessions in storage without worrying that they’ll be stolen or ruined. Great security features like gated access, adequate locks and surveillance cameras should put you at ease.

2. You feel safe visiting, even after dark.

A storage facility shouldn’t just make your stuff feel safe; it should make you feel comfortable too. We’ve all seen a scary movie or two that uses a storage facility as a creepy location, but in real life, a storage facility should never make you feel like you’re about to be written out of a horror movie script. Good lighting and a staff that walks the property often should be in place to make you feel like you can visit your storage unit any time.

3. You like the staff.

No, we’re not saying that you should be BFF with your storage facility’s manager (though if that’s what you’re going for, we hear cookies are a good start), but you should be able to voice questions and concerns to staff members and feel like your voice is being heard. Look for a facility that answers the phone, returns your messages and gives you the sense that no question is too stupid.

4. It’s got the features you want.

Can’t pay your bill by mail or in person? You need online bill pay. Storing an RV or boat? You need a storage facility that offers this type of storage. Storing wine, antiques or art? You need climate control? Hate carrying stuff to your car? Drive-up access is for you. Determine the one or two (or three, or four…) features that you absolutely can not live without and narrow your StorageFront search to only include facilities that offer it.

5. You can afford it.

Storage is supposed to make your life easier, so don’t rent a unit that causes you stress because it’s too expensive. Filter your search by listing facilities by price. And don’t forget to look for move-in specials, student specials, and great deals through social media. Even if you’re on a tight budget, there’s a way to afford storage. After all, everyone deserves extra space.
