Torrance, CA RV and Boat Storage

Lubabah Memon | March 21, 2016 @ 4:46 PM

Residents of Torrance live close enough to the beach to hit the waters with their boat every day.  The city is packed with beautiful beaches and RV parks, and weather that’s good enough for them to be able to enjoy nature almost year round.  Winters can get cold though, and not many people end up using their boats or RVs during that time.  It’s just not something very common to do around the holidays.  If you’re someone who doesn't like using his/her RV or boat every weekend, or even every month, consider putting your vehicles in self storage.

RV Parks and Storage

One of the most beautiful RV parks in Torrance is Dockweiler RV Park.  This park is literally on the beach, and you get gorgeous views of Malibu and Catalina Island.  Picnic tables and barbecue grills are scattered all over the park, and Marvin Braude Bicycle Trail, which is about 22 miles, is close to the park as well.  If you’re visiting the park, be sure to also go to nearby famous beaches including Venice Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Marina Del Rey, and Redondo Beach Pier.  The park is also close to the freeway so it’s easy to get to other attractions in the area, like Disneyland, Universal Studios, and the Getty Museum.  This park is in the midst of everything that southern California is known for!

If this is one of your favorite RV parks, you should definitely consider storing your RV, boat, and other recreational equipment in a storage facility nearby.  You can easily keep your bikes, barbecue equipment, surfboards, and other belongings in a storage unit so you don’t have to bring them along every time you come to the park.  Consider storing in Everest Self Storage, which is 4.4 miles away from the park, or U.S. Storage Centers, which is 4.7 miles away.  Both of these facilities are close to the park, so instead of packing your RV and driving it through Torrance’s traffic, you can just stop by your storage unit and have everything you need for your getaway waiting for you.  Going on a vacation without having to do much planning sounds pretty awesome to us.

Flexibility in Leases and Hours

Torrance has a pretty high cost of living as it is, so you don’t want to break the bank with your self storage bill.  For the most part, you probably use your boat or RV mainly during the spring and summer.  That’s only about six months out of the year, and leases are generally yearlong.  However, the storage industry understands the need for flexible leases, especially for boat and RV storage.  Storage facilities offer month-to-month leases so you’re not paying for a unit that you’re not using.  Some facilities even offer a discount if you prepay for a certain number of months, so be sure to ask about that as well as other specials and deals when you’re thinking of signing a lease.

You should also look for a facility that allows for 24-hour access to your unit so you can get your RV or boat at any time.  Summer evenings are a great time to go for a spin in your boat, especially after a long and hard day of work.  If the facility that you’re storing at closes at 7PM, this isn’t something you’ll be able to do.  It’s a shame if your ability to use your vehicles is limited because of lack of access to them.

The Weather and Safety

Torrance is a pretty crowded city with a lot of small streets.  It’s really difficult to keep your boat or RV in front of your home without the risk of it being damaged by the weather or any accidents that may occur.  It’s also a coastal city, so it’s better to store vehicles that you’re not using in a covered area because of the damage that the high salt content in the ocean’s air can do to your RV.

You also don’t want your precious vehicles to be susceptible to theft.  Torrance has annual property crimes of 2,767, and you don’t want to be the one added to that number.  Most storage facilities take pretty strict security measures to ensure the safety of their tenants’ belongings.  It’s common for facilities to have some combination of the following security measures:  24-hour video surveillance, on-site managers, individually alarmed units, security guards, and well-lit and gated facilities.  Find a facility that has all the measures that you think are necessary to keep your stuff safe and give you some peace of mind.
