If you’re looking for a great way to use more of the vertical space in your home, or just want to get a few areas a little more manageable, a few strategically placed shower caddies may be the solution. It’s strange that we even call them “shower” caddies. Yes, they were designed to hang over shower heads, keeping our shampoo, soap, and loofahs in a convenient place, yet they can hold all sorts of small items we use daily, all around the house.
For most of these ideas, you’ll hang your shower caddies on the wall, either using a bar that stands out a bit from the wall itself, or with picture hangers. That part is up to you. Keep in mind the weight of what you plan to put in your caddies.
Dish Towel Holder
Under a kitchen cabinet, attach a bar to the wall, hang hooks from it, and hang metal shower caddies from the hooks. Inside the caddies, put folded dish towels, so that when you’re doing the dishes, you can easily grab one when you’re ready to dry.
Mittens and Caps Holder
When winter comes around, you’ll want to make sure you don’t forget your mittens and woolen caps on the way out the door. Put picture frame hooks on the wall by the front door, and hang caddies there at eye level, one for each person who needs to remember their hats and gloves, then put the articles of clothing neatly inside.
Want to add something lovely to the fence in your backyard, or grow some herbs in your home? Hang up a shower caddy on the wall in a spot that gets lots of sun. Purchase baskets that will fit into the caddy, fill them with soil, and plant your seeds.
Fruit and Vegetable Reminder
In our fast-paced world, it can be tough to remember to eat our fruits and vegetables. Often, you may simply pull something out of the freezer and microwave it, or swing by a fast food drive thru. Near the refrigerator in your kitchen, consider hanging up a wire shower caddy or two. In each basket, put a few of the sorts of fruits and veggies that don’t go in the fridge, like apples, oranges, tomatoes, and peppers. This will remind you to maybe slow down, have a healthy snack, or cook with these ingredients.
Incoming & Outgoing Mail
If you tend to run out of room on your desk or kitchen table, and sometimes lose track of your mail because of it, this can really help. Simply hang an attractive shower caddy in a convenient place where you know you’ll see your mail. Use the one tray for outgoing mail, such as bills you’re ready to mail or birthday cards you need to send out, and the other tray for bills and other letters that have come in, but that you haven’t had time to open yet.
Office Supply Shelf
If you’re like me, it’s not only mail that piles up on your desk, it’s your office supplies. If your desk has drawers, you can always put your supplies in those, or you can have an organizer on your desk for them. However, if you want to free up space, you can always use a nice shower caddy. Hang it on the wall beside your desk, and put in a few smaller containers, such as a cup to hold your pens and pencils, and a couple of small boxes for your pins, paper clips, and staples.
Laundry Supply Holder
If you have your own laundry room, you know that when you keep your detergent on top of your washer or dryer, you end up with detergent rings. Instead, install a sturdy bar in your laundry room, from which you can hang clothing on clothes hangers, as well as a shower caddy or two, which will hold your detergents and fabric softeners.
No doubt, you’ll come up with more ideas for what you can keep in shower caddies. You could use them to display small stuffed animals, hold craft supplies, or your makeup. It’s all up to you.
