About self storage in Maryland
Looking for storage in Maryland?
A majority of Maryland’s population resides in and surround Washington, D.C., and in Baltimore. Travel outside of the two major cities, and you’ll find why Maryland is nicknamed “America in Miniature,” because of its vast array of landscape. There are the sandy dunes with traces of sea grass in the east, the marshlands near the bay and the rolling hills in the Piedmont Region and the pine tree–covered mountains in the west. Instead of traveling the U.S. to see its diverse geography, a trip to Maryland could achieve the same.
Maryland also provides many recreational activities. The state has a large deer population, and hunting helps control that. The Chesapeake Bay provides many fishing and boating opportunities. To store hunting or fishing equipment out of season, or to store your boat, search for the nearest self–storage facility to you on StorageFront.
Economy
Maryland has the highest median household income of any state, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Much of the economy is built around the government agencies in the nation’s capital. White–collage technical and administrative workers make up 25 percent of the state’s labor force, which is one of the highest in the country.
There are also many educational and medical research institutions in the state. John Hopkins University is the largest single employer in the Baltimore area. Maryland is home to the third–oldest college in the U.S., St. John’s College, and 18 other private colleges and universities. John Hopkins is the most prominent, and the University of Maryland, College Park, is the largest public university. The United States Naval Academy is located in the state capital, Annapolis.
Entertainment
With two major cities, Maryland is well represented in professional sports with two NFL teams, the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins; two Major League Baseball teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals; and the NHL’s Washington Capitals and the NBA’s Washington Wizards both play in D.C.
Crime rates
Baltimore has high crime rates, including high rates of burglary, robbery and theft. Check the amenities listed on StorageFront at any storage facility you’re considering to see if they have 24–hour surveillance. Also, see StorageFront’s Storage Tips for tips about self–storage insurance.
